Also cannot see the properties or even open the file by right click. I don't have a background installed on my laptop and I have the same problem. Surely I should be able to rename files without worrying when my background is going to change!! I know this is just a temporary fix and would like to know what to do to stop this happening at all. I have now set the frequency as 1 minute so am able to rename files (although the problem still occurs if i try to rename it just before the background changes). Over even though the option is not available in windows 10.
I had the setting to change every 10 seconds which was available in windows 8.1 and had carried It is the desktop slide show that causes the problem - every time the background changes the item I am focused on gets reset (whether renaming or just selected).
